Five readers’ hands around a long table covered in application pages with pencil notes and coloured tabs.

The panel

Five working people who read every application and answer for the choices.

How the panel works

Each application is read in the portal by two panellists, who see only the work, the plan and the references. They score separately and then talk it through as a group.

The chair casts a vote only if the room is split.

Conflicts of interest

Panellists leave the room whenever an applicant they know is discussed. They also sign a declaration at the start of each round.
