Ask before you apply
If yours isn’t here, the contact page reaches a real person.
Eligibility
Do I need to live in a particular country?
No. Applicants can be anywhere, as long as we can pay into a bank account in your name.
Can I apply if I am studying?
Part-time study is fine. Full-time degrees that overlap the fellowship are not, as the eligibility page explains.
Does my work have to have been published or shown?
No. Samples can be drafts, sketches or recordings, and many past fellows had never been published.
Which languages can I work in?
Your project can be in any language, but you and your mentor need a shared one to talk in, and for now that is English.
The application
What does the expression of interest do?
It tells us to expect you and sends you the application link. It is not scored, and the apply page has the details.
Can I apply in more than one discipline?
One application per person per round. Pick the discipline closest to the work.
Do I need references?
Yes, two, who will be contacted only if you are shortlisted. The portal explains what to send them.
Can I change my application after sending it?
You can edit it until the closing time, which is on the dates page. After that it is locked.
After you apply
When will I hear back?
Every applicant hears by email at each stage, and the dates page gives the days.
What if I am shortlisted?
A panellist will arrange a call of about twenty minutes to talk through your plan. It is a conversation, not a test.
Will I get feedback if I am not chosen?
We can’t write individual feedback for every applicant. We can tell you which stage you reached, and you are welcome to apply again.
The fellowship
How is the money paid?
In three instalments, to your own bank account, spread across the twelve weeks.
What do you expect from fellows at the end?
A short written account of what you did, and whatever you made, if it can be shared. We never ask for ownership of the work.
Can I work somewhere other than home?
Yes. Rent a studio, borrow a shed or travel, as long as the project gets your time.
