Round 2027 opens today, Monday 5 October 2026, and closes on Friday 15 January 2027 at 5 pm, in the applicant’s own local time. If you want to apply, the first step is a short expression of interest on the apply page, and we will email you the link once you have sent it.
The eligibility page lists who can apply, and the dates page has everything else you need to put in your diary. A panel of five reads every application twice. This round we will award six fellowships of $12,000, where earlier rounds awarded three. Each fellow gets twelve weeks from June to August 2027, a mentor met every second week, and the money in three instalments.
If you are unsure whether your idea fits, ask us. The fellows so far have been writers, researchers, makers and musicians, and the work has ranged from a book of essays to a small wooden boat. What they have in common is that the plan fit twelve weeks and one person, and that they knew what they would do on the first Monday.
If you have a question, write to us. We would rather answer it now than have you give up on the project. It is a good time of year to start, with plenty of weeks before January, and we would like to hear from people in places we have not heard from yet.
